Projects
That the Centre is involved in a number of projects, including a five-year project for the Department of Higher Education and Training, 'Education and Emancipation', a UKZN-funded project 'Race, Gender, Class and Identity: Opportunities for and Threats to Social Cohesion in South Africa' and an ongoing project investigating 'Classification and its Consequences'.
Past projects include a South Africa-Netherlands Programme on Alternatives in Development funded project 'Exploring cross-generational construction of social identities in contemporary South Africa: notes from the emergent margins' and a UNESCO-funded project 'The mapping-out of the eThekwini Municipality’s policies on racism and discrimination and the extent of coverage/ inclusion of the tenpoint plan of action and The mapping exercise of policies on HIV/AIDS in Durban'. Other projects include:
- Race in post-apartheid South Africa - an overview of legislation that requires race classification.
- Race Classification at the University of KwaZulu-Natal: Purposes, Sites and Practices.
- A series of Maurice Webb student research reports.
